Description

Hurrell portrait of Crawford gifted to a legendary MGM producer

Vintage matte-finish 13 x 10 Hurrell portrait of Crawford in a lovely, dramatic pose, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Hunt Stromberg, My most profound gratitude to you and everlasting admiration & friendship, Joan Crawford.” Lower right corner bears a Hurrell blindstamp. In fine condition, with some surface marks and scuffs mainly to blank borders, and a tiny tear to middle of top edge. Stromberg enjoyed a 30-year career during the Golden Age of Hollywood as a writer, director, and, most notably, a producer for films such as The Thin Man series, The Women, and The Great Ziegfeld, the latter earning him a Best Picture Oscar in 1937. After joining MGM in 1925, he became one of its key executives alongside Louis B. Mayer, Irving Thalberg, Harry Rapf, David O. Selznick, and Walter Wanger. Additionally, Stromberg produced the 1928 film Our Dancing Daughters, a movie that catapulted Crawford into stardom. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
