Description

Charles Gounod

French composer (1818–1893) best remembered for his composition of ‘Ave Maria.’ Three items: a 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Gounod, signed and inscribed on the reverse in fountain pen; an ALS on both sides of a 4 x 3 card, October 18, 1884, concerning “the performance of the Paschal Mass”; and a sheet music booklet for ‘Les Sept Paroles de Notre Seigneur Jesus-Christ,’ signed and inscribed across the top by Gounod to “Madame Jules Barbier.” In overall very good to fine condition. Jules Barbier wrote the librettos for many of Gounod’s works, including Faust. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
