German-American painter (1830–1902) best known for his large landscapes of the American West during the 19th century. ALS signed “A. Bierstadt,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 6.75, personal letterhead, no date. Letter to Mrs. Jones, in full: “I called on you this morning to ask you to come out to my Studio and look at the picture I designed giving you as a wedding present. The Studio, you know, is quite near—on the next corner in fact. When I found you had really arrived last week I should have sent it on at once to Washington if I had not already loaned it to the Union League Club for exhibition. It has now come back however, and I hope you will like it as well as everyone else seemed to who saw it there. Mrs. Bierstadt having given you and the Senator a piece of her own handiwork, I thought I could no less than give you some of mine.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
