Fabulous vintage matte-finish 20 x 23 gelatin silver close-up portrait of Monroe smiling beautifully, editioned, dated, and initialed along the lower edge in ink, “3/11, 1949, A. D.” Reverse bears an Andre de Diene photography stamp, pencil notation, “Tobey Beach, 49,” and ink notation, “5/16—Given to Charl Lewis, Shirley de Dienes, 11.18.86.” In fine condition. In 1945, de Dienes became the first photographer to shoot the young Norma Jeane as a professional model. His photos of Monroe appeared on over twenty-three magazine covers from 1945 to 1949 worldwide. A stunning example of one of de Dienes’s best portraits of the blonde starlet.
