American soldier and statesman (1739–1812) who served as governor of New York and as vice president in the Jefferson and Madison administrations. Partly-printed DS, signed “Geo: Clinton,” one page, 14.75 x 9.25, March 15, 1803. Governor Clinton appoints “Lewis Scott Ensign of a Company in the Regiment of Militia in the country of Saratoga whereof Thomas Rogers Esquire, is Lieutenant-Colonel-Commander.” Signed at the conclusion by Clinton as governor of New York and countersigned by Deputy Secretary of State Archibald McIntyre.
