Henry Jackson Hunt

Chief of Artillery in the Army of the Potomac (1819–1889) during the American Civil War who is considered by many as the greatest artillery tactician and strategist of the war; his tactics affected the outcome of many important battles, including Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. ALS signed “Henry J. Hunt, Ch. of Art. A. P.,” one page, 3.25 x 4.5, June 21, 1863. In part: “Approved Lieutenant Henderson served for several months in DeRussy’s battery…and is an excellent officer. He resigned on a promise of promotion in an infantry regiment.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
