Chief of Artillery in the Army of the Potomac (1819–1889) during the American Civil War who is considered by many as the greatest artillery tactician and strategist of the war; his tactics affected the outcome of many important battles, including Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. ALS signed “Henry J. Hunt, Ch. of Art. A. P.,” one page, 3.25 x 4.5, June 21, 1863. In part: “Approved Lieutenant Henderson served for several months in DeRussy’s battery…and is an excellent officer.
