TLS signed “Jim Thurber,” one page, 8.5 x 11, July 31, 1951. Letter to fellow cartoonist Mary Petty. In full: “Last night I was listening to the Cholly Knickerbocker radio program and he interviewed, over the ocean, a Punch artist named Roland Emmett—I think it was ‘Roland.’ He draws trains and invented, among other stations, the lovely towns of Dar Tottering and Abbots Grumbling. When he was asked to name his favorite American cartoonists he said, ‘Mary Petty, Steinberg, and Thurber’ and then added, ‘Mary Petty is my great favorite.’ He is a man of rare discernment, whose excellent taste is identical with mine in the case of his great favorite.” In fine condition.
