Lincoln’s controversial first secretary of war (1799–1889). ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 9.75, October 26, 1857. In part: “Are you coming to…the Harrisburgs? If not, can’t you…see me about the end of the week? Notwithstanding it is said you have bargained with Ferry to be a subordinate under him, and to help him Clerk.” In very good to fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
