Description

Slug’s NYC Jazz Saloon Collection of Handbills

Collection of six unsigned handbills for Slug’s Saloon in New York, each one page, 5.5 x 8.5, dating from 1966 to 1969, featuring acts such as Sun Ra, Charles McPherson, Yusef Lateef, Wynton Kelly, Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan, Roland Kirk, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Art Farmer, and Hank Mobley. Lee Morgan, who is featured on two of the handbills, was killed at Slug’s Saloon in 1972 when he was shot by his common-law wife. In overall fine condition. The jazz club was situated in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and drew popular performers despite its seedy location. The Larry Rafferty Collection.
