Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12 x 17, January 13, 1801. Exceptional ship’s pass, in part: “By the President of the United States of America Suffer the Ship Ocean of New Bedford, Benjamin Howland master or commander…To Pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods and Merchandize, without any hindrance, seizure or molestation.” Beautifully signed at the conclusion by President Adams and countersigned by Acting Secretary of State Charles Lee. The crisp white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. In fine condition, with tastefully trimmed edges. With its large, striking lighthouse vignette at the top and exceedingly bold signatures, this is a supremely attractive example of an Adams presidential document in a wonderful format.
