Texas Ranger and military officer of the Republic of Texas (1817–1883) who served in several armed conflicts, including the Indian and the Mexican-American Wars; during the gold rush he migrated to San Francisco with a party of ‘Forty Niners.’ Rare and extremely desirable partly-printed DS, signed “John C. Hays, Sheriff,” one page, 8 x 12.25, April 26, 1852. As sheriff of the county of San Francisco, Hays certifies the sale at public auction of “a lot in the City of San Francisco situated on Market Street” for the sum of $49.98. In fine condition.
