Description

1929 presidential paycheck—two months before Black Tuesday

Extremely rare US Treasury presidential paycheck, 8.5 x 3.25, filled out in type as payable to “Herbert C. Hoover President of the United States, The White House, Washington DC” for $6,250.00, July 31, 1929, crisply endorsed on the reverse, “Herbert Hoover.” In fine condition, with expected check wear, bank stamps, and cancellation holes, and mild soiling. Less than two months later disaster struck the American economy when the stock market crashed at the end of October. Despite his ineffectiveness at relieving the Great Depression, Hoover held a firm belief in private charity and donated his entire presidential salary. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
