World Colored Heavyweight Champion boxer from Alabama (1897–1947) who fought from 1919-1937. He named himself after George ‘Old Chocolate’ Godfrey, a Black Canadian boxer from the bare-knuckle boxing days. Ink signature, “George Godfrey,” on an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet bearing an affixed image of the boxing great with his right hand clenched. Scattered wear, creasing, and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
