James Buchanan

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 13.5 x 16.25, September 2, 1859. President Buchanan appoints William Allen as “a Gunner in the Navy of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by President Buchanan and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Isaac Toucey. The orange seal affixed at the bottom remains fully intact. Intersecting folds passing through portions of the signature, moderate overall wrinkling, and some staining confined to edges, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
