“I voted Abram Lincoln for President…I think now that he will turn out to be a second Washington”

Letter signed “Giles R. Goss,” one page, 7.75 x 10, May 12, 1861. In part: “You spoke something about the Excitement of our National affairs. The Excitement has bin vary great with us more so I expect then it has with you…Freeport has now one thousand troops on drill Ready for any moment notice for war. I voted Abram Lincoln for President and am not sorrow as yet I think now that he will turn out to be a second Washington. I think he be worth a half a dozen of old Buccanon any way.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and one rough edge.
