“He read your character at Fonda’s one recent evening, I believe”

American playwright (1906–1963) known for his powerful works of the Depression era, including Waiting for Lefty and Golden Boy. ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation letterhead, August 29, 1960. Letter to Hollywood restaurateur Michael Romanoff. In part: “I believe you met David Rice at one or more of the various parties around town. He read your character at Fonda’s one recent evening, I believe. He is extremely popular with diners and has had long experience in good restaurants…You might find him an interesting feature at Romanoff’s…P. S. Are we not now acute neighbors? I’m at 703 N. Beverly Dr. Come over & hear a quartet.” Heavy uniform toning from previous display and a trivial chip to the top edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope signed by Odets in the return address area. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
