Vintage glossy 10 x 8 Elektra Records publicity photo of The Doors taken from above, signed and inscribed in black felt tip by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore, all using their first names only: “To Manny’s Music, with thanks, The Doors, Ray,” “Jim,” “Robby,” and “John.” In very good condition, with a reinforced tear and surface loss to the lower border, a chip to the top edge, a light diagonal flaw to the emulsion, golding to some areas of the image, and all writing very faded but mostly legible (Ray’s signature has poor contrast against his suit jacket). Originally displayed amongst the hundreds of other signed photos at New York City’s well-known Manny’s Music Store—open from 1933 to 2009, the store’s clientele spanned musical generations from Buddy Holly to Guns N’ Roses. The store was a popular can’t-miss shopping destination for touring acts like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Fully signed Doors photos are virtually nonexistent, and despite its flaws this is a remarkable piece with a musically important association. Pre-certified REAL.
