TLS signed “Charles A. Lindbergh,” three pages, 8.5 x 11, March 6, 1940. Letter to Donald A. Hall, an engineer at Ryan Airlines who co-designed the Spirit of St. Louis. In part: “I have just received a letter from Dr. George W. Lewis, Director of Research, N.A.C.A., enquiring about data connected with the ‘Spirit of St. Louis.’ Dr. Lewis tells me that the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences is collecting material relating to the early flights, and would like to have anything available that relates to the ‘Spirit of St. Louis.’ Practically everything I had pertaining to the ‘Spirit of St. Louis’ has been turned over to the Missouri Historical Society and the Smithsonian Institution…It occurs to me, however, that you might have engineering records that would be of great interest to them, and I am writing on the chance that you would be willing to turn these over to the Institute…Dr. Lewis sent me a copy of the ‘Technical Preparation of the Airplane Spirit of St. Louis’ which you wrote for the N.A.C.A. soon after the flight in 1927…I am glad that you were able to make this record when it was fresh in your mind.” In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip mark to the top edge. Fabulous content with an excellent association between aviation pioneers. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
