Rare printed DS as vice president, one page, 10 x 15, January 29, 1945. Senate of the United States document headed, “Resolutions on the Death of Colonel Edwin A. Halsey.” In full: “Resolved, That the Senate has heard with profound sorrow the announcement of the death of Col. Edwin A. Halsey, late the Secretary of the Senate. Resolved, That the Acting Secretary of the Senate communicate these resolutions to the House of Representatives and transmit a copy thereof to the family of the deceased. Resolved, That as a further mark of respect of the memory of the deceased the Senate do now adjourn until Thursday next.” In very good condition, with scattered creases, toning, and soiling. Halsey’s entire career had been devoted to the Senate, advancing through the ranks after beginning as a page at age sixteen in 1897. He was also the secretary-treasurer of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and so was in frequent contact with Truman and his campaign headquarters during his senatorial campaigns. Items signed by Truman during his brief time as vice president are quite rare, and with its close political and personal association, this is an especially desirable example. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
