Description

Billy Mitchell

American World War I ace (1879–1936) regarded as the father of the US Air Force, whose zealous ambition and vocal criticism of the War and Navy departments following the war led to a court-martial and his resignation. TLS signed “Wm. Mitchell,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, June 5, 1926. Letter to James Pond, in part: “I wish you would have the moving picture film sent to me at The Plains, Virginia, which is the express office for Middleburg. You had better change my address to Middleburg, Virginia instead of the Washington address. I would also like to have the other letters which Mrs. Mitchell sent to you. I do not think there are very many left.” Mitchell adds a handwritten postscript, “Be sure to come out here with us,” and signs again with his initials. In fine condition, with a horizontal mailing fold passing through the signature. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
