John M. Schofield

Partly-printed DS, signed “J. M. Schofield,” one page, 24 x 19, February 28, 1902. Document certifying that Captain John Jackson Mercer of the 78th Illinois Infantry was “received as a Companion of the First Class of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion Schofield as commander in chief and countersigned by John P. Nicholson as recorder in chief. The red seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. Tightly rolled with scattered creases, light soiling, and a few small edge tears, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
