Description

Spectacular photograph of Keller’s editor signing into her hand, her tutor standing close by

Outstanding matte-finish 9.5 x 8 photo of Keller with her teacher, Anne Sullivan, and Anne’s husband, displayed in its original 11.25 x 9.75 presentation mat, signed on the mat in pencil, “Helen Keller,” and ink, “Anne S. Macy” and “John Macy.” Nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 17 x 15.25. In fine condition. Anne Sullivan is famously remembered as Keller’s instructor and lifelong companion since beginning to tutor her in 1887. This image was captured circa 1905 in the house that Keller and Sullivan purchased together in Wrentham, Massachusetts, while Keller was studying at Radcliffe. In 1905 Sullivan married Harvard professor and literary critic John Macy, who had helped in the editing and publication of Keller’s autobiography The Story of My Life. This superb photograph depicts Macy seated with a manuscript and signing into Keller’s hand, with Sullivan leaning over his shoulder. A rare, early piece signed by Keller and two of the most influential figures in her life. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
