Description

Clara Bow

ALS, one page both sides, 4.75 x 7.75, monogrammed stationery, April 28, 1945. Letter to Mollie Boyce, in part: “My husband’s name is really George Francis Beldam—Rex Bell is his picture name—My real name is Clara Gordon Bow. I was lucky in not having to change it—I wanted to change it though, at one time to Claire Bow, but the studio said No!…I was not with Mr. Bell outside of ‘Luers,’ that time you mention, so you see you didn’t miss an opportunity of meeting me or seeing me after all—Mr. Bell probably had another red-head with him eh what? I’ll take his head off no foolin’, for carting another woman around with him—Of course, I’m only fooling—you know—I’m not jealous and have always had complete trust in my darling—It’s too bad that your husband died so young—he would sure be proud of his wonderful son now if he could see him—your boy’s hair is beautiful—my son’s hair is no longer curly for some reason. He was born with tight blond curls but as he grew older the curls vanished. His hair is still very blond and slightly wavy—my younger boy George has brown eyes and light brown hair—he isn’t as handsome as Toni but has loads of personality.” In fine condition, with light soiling and a small area of dampstaining. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Bow’s hand, and a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
