Description

Rudolph Ruzicka

Eminent Czech-born engraver, typographer, and book designer (1883–1978). ALS signed “R. R.,” five pages, 5.75 x 7.75, personal letterhead, May 8, 1940. Letter to David Silve at the Crowell Publishing Co., in part: “I saw [typographer and printer Daniel] Updike last Saturday, he is altogether delighted with the book. He seemed especially pleased with my device on the title page and wanted to know if he could use it. The drawings are mine but the cuts belong to the Institute and I wonder how they would feel about the matter…I am particularly pleased with the way you used my type and obliged to you for selecting it. I now see that it was the logical thing to do.” Ruzicka adds a postscript on the reverse, signing with his initials a second time. In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
