Samuel L. Clemens

First National Bank of Hartford check, 7.75 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Clemens, payable to his coachman and faithful servant Patrick McAleer for $100, July 27, 1875, with Clemens adding “House money” to left side. In fine condition, with an expected bank stamp (partially affecting two letters of the last name) and a small cancellation hole to center, and slight toning to edges. During this period Clemens was busily writing for the Atlantic Monthly and working on his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was published the following year. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
