TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead, June 15, 1904. Letter to Rev. G. L. Chaney, in part: “This institution, as you know, is growing very fast both in numbers and in the amount of property entrusted to the care of the trustees, as well as influence before the public, and it becomes more and more important that the trustees take a closer hold upon the affairs of the school and visit it often, and especially does it become necessary to have meetings upon the grounds here in the South. At the time you were elected as a trustee you were living in Atlanta and it was quite convenient for you to attend all the meetings, but since you removed to the North a question was raised at our last meeting whether or not it would be possible for you to attend the meetings regularly on the grounds and keep in such close touch with the affairs of the school as would make us feel that the best thing was being done for the school. We at all times of course appreciate your deep interest in our work and what you have done for the institution.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), and some mirroring of text.
