Roger B. Taney

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (born 1777) from 1836 until his death in 1864. Before holding that office, Taney served as secretary of the treasury and attorney general. ADS, signed “R. B. Taney, Plffs Attorney,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.25, no date but circa August 1806. A lengthy legal document related to the suit of Henry Darnell v. William Reynolds in a financial dispute regarding a plea of trespassing. Taney also incorporates his name, “R. B. Taney,” once in the main text, and again in an endorsement on the docketing panel. Small edge separations at folds, scattered toning, and expected document wear, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
