Civil War Documents

Collection of six Civil War–dated documents of various types, including: a document from the office of the provost marshal dated December 31, 1863, confirming the date that a soldier was mustered into the 1st Regiment of Illinois Artillery; a pat order document dated April 26, 1862, requesting a balance due of $48.75 to pay for the travel of a discharged soldier, with an accompanying certificate given to the soldier to enable him to receive the pay; a 1st Division, Department of West Virginia document dated January 13, 1864, issuing Special Orders No. 11 to discharge a private from his regiment to be detailed as capital steward at a hospital; printed General Orders No. 170 issued by the War Department regarding the enlistment of minors, dated June 9, 1863, signed by Edward D. Townsend; and an abstract of provisions muster roll-type document listing rations issued to the volunteers in Graham’s Brigade for the month of March 1862. In overall very good condition, with significant partial separations to intersecting folds of the provisions abstract and various staining, creases, and soiling to the others.
