Description

George Sand

Eminent French author (1804–1876), born Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin, better known by the masculine pen name she adopted early in her career. ALS in French, signed “G. Sand,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.25, August 14, 1852. A letter to her physician in Paris, Dr. Philips, negotiating payment for a friend’s visit to ophthalmologist Louis Auguste Desmares. In part (translated): “Ms. Fleury desires to pay the consultation, but I have to tell you that she is penniless and I hope Mr. Desmares may wish to not take it…I count as usual on your good friendship.” Unusual bands of toning from strikethroughs to opposing sides, otherwise fine condition.
