Description

Robert Treat Paine

Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Endorsement signature, “Paine,” at the conclusion of a manuscript legal document, one page, 3.75 x 6.25, dated August 1767. The document is a bill for the costs to a plaintiff involved in a legal case, amounting to £2.4.0. A central vertical fold, a surface wrinkle passing through a couple letters of Paine’s signature, and mild mirroring and light brushing to ink, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA.
