Description

William Duer

Lawyer, developer, and speculator (1743–1799) who served in the Continental Congress and signed the Articles of Confederation. ALS signed “Wm. Duer,” one page, 8 x 10, November 15, 1787. Letter to Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a major general of the Continental Army who served as General George Washington's chief of staff in the final years of the war. In part: “I send you an order for Four hundred Dollars in Cash, and Bank Check:—Since I last saw you I have found some Receipts…of Payments made on your Account.” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, light stains and foxing, a few small areas of paper loss (affecting one word), and professionally silked on both sides for preservation. A fine association between important personalities of the American Revolution. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
