Description

“America! America! God shed his grace on thee”

Educator and poet (1859–1929) best known for the lyrics to the iconic patriotic song ‘America the Beautiful.’ Desirable printed lyrics to ‘America the Beautiful,’ one page, 5 x 6, neatly signed at the conclusion in crisp black ink, “Katharine Lee Bates.” The classic anthem, in part: “O beautiful for spacious skies, / For amber waves of grain, / For purple mountain majesties / Above the fruited plain! / America! America! / God shed his grace on thee / And crown thy good with brotherhood / From sea to shining sea!.” Gorgeously archivally cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 11 x 12. In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold. Bates wrote the original version of the poem in 1893 after being inspired by the view from atop Pike’s Peak; it first appeared in print in The Congregationalist on the Fourth of July in 1895, and the final version was completed in 1913. An elegantly presented example of this iconic poem. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
