English character actress (1902–1986) most widely recognized for her role as the title character in Bride of Frankenstein. DS, signed “Elsa Laughton,” six pages, 8 x 13, March 19, 1937. An agreement between Lanchester and British and International Press Limited. In part: “Between Elsa Laughton the wife of Charles Laughton, professionally known as ‘Elsa Lanchester’…the hereinafter called ‘the Authoress’…[and] British and International Press Limited…It is hereby agreed as follows…The Authoress shall write or cause to be written a series of articles…not to exceed 30,000 words on a subject provisionally entitled: ‘Charles Laughton and I’ By Elsa Lanchester (Mrs. Charles Laughton).” Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Lanchester using her married name, and countersigned by several witnesses and representatives.
