ALS signed “Ron,” one page, 6 x 9, no date but prior to 1971. Letter to Jake Ehrlich. In full: “Some one forging your name sent me an autographed photo of a nite club party supposedly picturing you & me. Even though I was in uniform & some of the others in the picture are known to me I consider the photo a clever example of trick photography. The two who are portrayed as J. W. Ehrlich & R. Reagan are obviously fakes—we were never that young.” In fine condition, with a red ballpoint office notation struck through the text, not affecting readability. Ehrlich was a close friend of the Reagans and a prominent lawyer whose clients included Gene Krupa, Billie Holiday, Errol Flynn, and Howard Hughes. In 1957 he was the lead attorney for Lawrence Ferlinghetti in defense of an obscenity charge for the sale of Allen Ginsberg's Howl at City Lights Books. An intriguing association and humorous letter from the future president. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
