Description

Gouverneur K. Warren

American military officer (1830–1882) who, despite earning the sobriquet ‘Hero of Little Round Top’ for his actions at Gettysburg, was humiliated when General Philip Sheridan removed him from command after Warren’s supposedly ineffective performance at Five Forks. ALS signed “G. K. Warren,” one page both sides, 4.75 x 5.75, April 5, 1882. In part: “Enclosed is a draft to your order for $100.00…it may be necessary to have your signature witnessed…We hope that a settlement can be soon made of the Brown business in Phila…and the estate finally settled…You can never spend your money honestly but once, and what is delayed is not lost. You’ll have it yet.” Double-matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 13.5 x 22; the first page of the letter is obscured by framing, but a color copy is affixed to the backing. In fine condition, with intersecting folds and one small edge tear. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
