Detective novelist (1888–1959) best known for The Big Sleep and The Long Goodbye. TLS signed “Ray,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, March 7, 1959. Letter to his agent H. N. Swanson. In part: “Any checks which you receive from the television contract please send for deposit to my account at the Chase Manhattan Bank.” In fine condition, with staple holes to upper left and a subtle stain near the bottom. Chandler passed away just two weeks later on March 26; a TV series based on his most famous character, Philip Marlowe, would debut on ABC in October 1959, lasting 26 episodes.
