In full: “I am in receipt of your card requesting my presence at the reception to the Honorable John McKean at the Manhattan Club on Wednesday evening, December 28th. I regret extremely that my engagements will not permit me to be present on an occasion which would afford me so much pleasure.” Cloth-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 22 x 14.
