French writer born Marie-Henri Beyle (1783–1842) considered one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of realism. ALS in French, signed “H. Beyle,” one page, 5 x 7.75, undated but postmarked on reverse July 11, 1825. Letter to a gentleman. In part (translated): “I am angry not to be be in Paris on Monday. If I am there, I will take with great pleasure your very kind invitation.
