(Walt Disney Studios, 1946) Original Mary Blair concept storyboard painting featuring Br’er Bear, Br’er Fox, and Tar Baby from Song of the South. Accomplished in tempera and watercolor on a 14 x 11 illustration board. Image shows Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox looking at their Tar Baby while hiding behind a tree. Mat dimensions are 17 x 13. In fine condition. This was one of two partially animated Disney features Blair worked on during her time at the Disney Studios. Beside providing concept art for several Disney features, she created character designs for It’s a Small World, at the personal request of Walt Disney, as well as two murals for the Tomorrowland Promenade. Much of Blair’s concept art for the film revolved around the live-action scenes, with this vibrantly-colored work featuring two of the story’s main animated characters from one of the film’s most memorable segments.
