David Bell Birney

Union general (1825-1864) who served at Gettysburg, Second Bull Run, and Spotsylvania Court House. During the Siege of Petersburg, Birney fell ill with malaria and died three months later. Ink signature, “D. B. Birney, Major Gen’l,” on an off-white slip. Slip is affixed to a slightly larger card. Double-matted with a portrait of Birney and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 19.5 x 15. In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold and a vertical crease between the two initials of signature. RR Auction COA.
