An early portrayal of Conan Doyle’s sleuth

Actor (1853–1937) best remembered today for portraying Sherlock Holmes on stage and in a 1916 silent film. His portrayal of Holmes helped create the modern image of the detective. Matte-finish 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photo of Gillette in costume as Holmes, signed in thick black ink, “William Gillette, 1905.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
