Empress of Japan (1903–2000) married to Hirohito. Extraordinary matte-finish 8 x 11 portrait of the young empress in a regal three-quarter-length pose, affixed to its original 13.5 x 17.5 mount, boldly signed in the lower right in black ink in Japanese. In fine condition, with a thin diagonal mark to the lower left corner and mild foxing and staining to the mount. It is an absolutely stunning image with deep, rich tones and exceptional clarity.
