Lunar receiving laboratory stainless steel containment vessel, approximately 6 x 5.5, with a 4.25″ diameter opening, designed to hold moon rocks upon their return to earth. This two-piece vessel has five bolts which attach the two parts together, as well as a carrying handle on the top portion. Both pieces are etched with serial numbers X 1.2-4, with the bottom stamped “Vollrath, Sheboygan, Wis.” A heavy-duty vessel such as this would have been used to store lunar samples under vacuum within the Lunar Receiving Laboratory. In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
