In overall fine condition. Individual descriptions are as follows:
William Cullen Bryant: ALS signed “Wm. C. Bryant,” one page, 4.5 x 7, June 2, 1852. Letter to John M. Lenox, in full: “I am sorry not to be able to send you the autograph of J. Fenimore Cooper. The only fragment of Mr. Irving’s hand writing which has not been taken from me, by the autograph collectors, is the one enclosed.” In fine condition, with unobtrusive intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) and even overall toning.
John Stevens Cabot Abbott: Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite full-length portrait by A. Liebert & Co. of Paris, signed in the lower border in black ink, “John S. C. Abbott.” In fine condition with mild scattered surface marks and toning.
Helen Zimmern: Two ALSs, the first signed H. Z.,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.25, no date; and the second signed “Helen Zimmern,” two pages on two adjoining onionskin sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, September 22, [no year]. Both addressed to “Amelie.” A few slight edge chips and tears, otherwise fine condition.
Max Ring: Neatly penned, untranslated ALS in German, one page, 4 x 4.5, no date. In fine condition, with tiny edge separation to left edge.
Paul Lindau: Two untranslated ALSs in German, the first, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, March 1, 1883; the second, one page both sides, 4 x 6, embossed letterhead, February 27, 1903. In overall fine condition.
Karl Becker: Boldly-penned ALS in German, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, January 27, 1883. Untranslated letter to S. P. Avery of New York, who purchased Becker’s ‘The Venetian Girl’ and ‘Gratulantin’ paintings. In very fine condition.
John Tenniel: ANS, one page, 4.5 x 3.5, personal stationery card, February 25, no year. Note to Arthur Lewis, in full: “Thank you. Yes. With very great pleasure.” In fine condition, with a few areas of writing a shade light. RR Auction COA.
