Sending the “only fragment of Mr. Irving’s hand writing which has not been taken from me, by the autograph collectors”

ALS signed “Wm. C. Bryant,” one page, 4.5 x 7, June 2, 1852. Letter to John M. Lenox. In full: “I am sorry not to be able to send you the autograph of J. Fenimore Cooper. The only fragment of Mr. Irving’s hand writing which has not been taken from me, by the autograph collectors, is the one enclosed.” In fine condition, with unobtrusive intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) and even overall toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
