Boston-born Baptist minister and academic (1808–1895) best known as the lyricist of ‘America’ (‘My Country, ’Tis of Thee’), written while he was a student at Andover Theological Seminary. Crisp AQS on an off-white 3.5 x 2.5 card. Smith pens the second stanza from ‘America.’ In full: “My native country, thee, / Land of the noble free, / Thy name I love; / I love thy rocks and rills, / Thy woods and templed hills; / My heart with rapture thrills / Like that above.” Signed at the conclusion, “S.
