War-dated TLS signed “C. W. Nimitz,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Pacific Fleet and Pacific Ocean Areas letterhead, July 27, 1945. Letter to a cadet at the Texas Military Institute. In part: “I am forwarding you one of my personal autographed cards. The Third Fleet to which you refer, however, is under the able command of Admiral W. F. Halsey, USN. I note with interest…that you are taking an interest in the study of mathematics…We find in the Navy that far too many officers and men neglected their study of mathematics, with the result that they find themselves greatly handicapped, and often blocked in their promotions to higher positions.” In fine condition, with scattered light toning and a small tear to top edge.
