The Gettysburg hero awards a pension to a soldier’s widow

Partly-printed DS, signed “J. L. Chamberlain,” one page, 8.25 x 13.5, July 25, 1868. A state of Maine pension certificate for Margaret Powers, “widow of Thomas Powers, late a Private in Co. B, 30th Reg’t. Infantry Maine Vols. in the war of 1861, for the suppression of the Rebellion, is inscribed on the Pension list Rolls…at a rate of five dollars per month.” Signed at the conclusion by Chamberlain and countersigned by the secretary of state. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, handwritten portions light, but still legible, as well as Chamberlain’s signature a shade or two light.
