Cabinet photo of the pioneering surgeon—the first we have offered

British surgeon (1827–1912) who pioneered the practice of sterile surgery, one of the most important medical advances of the day. Original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet bust portrait of Lister, signed and inscribed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “Joseph Lister, with best regards to his friend Dr. Fessler.” Published by G. Jerrard of London. In very good condition, with moderate overall toning to the image and some newspaper clippings affixed to reverse. Exceptionally rare in this format. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
