Confederate ranger (1833–1916) whose guerrilla band specialized in attacking and disrupting Union supply lines. Taylor, with the compliments of the Author and the Publisher, March 27, 1896.” Affixed to the bottom of the page is a newspaper clipping regarding the publishing of the book. Mosby’s full signature has been affixed to reverse of page xii. Autographic condition: very good, with inscribed page detached from book, a light block of toning over inscription, a few small edge tears and chips, and a couple small pencil notations and spots of soiling. Book condition: VG-/None. Blue cloth-covered boards with stamped gilt lettering and illustration; edges worn, with several tears in cloth (heaviest at corners and spine-ends); spine sunned; exterior rubbed and soiled; textblock slightly yellowed; couple of hinges cracked, but binding still strong; four areas of discoloration to reps from non-archival tape; some underlining throughout, as well as a couple of affixed newspaper clippings/photos.
